Job Description:

The Senior Director Church Operations serves as part of a team of Senior Directors of major church ministry areas. This position includes both hands on and management oversight functions in the following areas:

Operations – This includes Leasing, Compliance, and Risk Management functions. Duties would include determining need and negotiating leases for copiers, servers, and other equipment. Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws in all areas of church operations, including compliance with 501(c)3 and other IRS regulations. Risk Management includes administering the background screening program for youth workers, working with ministries to identify areas where risk can be minimized, life safety, implementing/consulting on mandatory reporter issues related to suspected child abuse, and working with insurance carriers to manage policies and to protect the church.

Human Resources – This includes developing job descriptions; recruiting, screening and selecting candidates on both a local and national level; administering personnel policies; working with the Finance Department to administer benefits; ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws; analyzing and modifying compensation and benefits policies; orienting new employees; performing exit interviews; maintaining personnel records; and handling questions and assisting in resolving work-related problems.

Leadership and Management – This includes casting vision, facilitating, training, encouraging, and managing various ministry areas of the church, including Information Technology, Finance, Audio Visual Technologies and Production Services, Facility Management, Event & Facility Scheduling, Reception, Equipment & Supplies, Library, and Bookstore. The Operations team usually includes about 20 staff and many more laity.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience (higher degree or seminary is a plus)

- Human Resources: thorough knowledge of human resources issues, including applicable State and Federal laws, and best practices for hiring, onboarding and quit/termination, as well as the proven ability to work with staff to resolve conflicts in a Biblical manner.

- Administration: Experience with equipment and vendor selection, contract/lease negotiation, project planning and execution.

Additional Experience and Skills Desired Include:

- Information Technology: Windows Server, Active Directory, VMWare vSphere, iSCSI SAN, web hosting, WordPress mu, MAC OSX, VMWare Fusion, telephony, firewalls and backup strategies

- Facility Management: scheduling, maintenance, security, hospitality

- Finance: best practices, compliance, audit

- Audio Visual Technology: lighting, sound, video production, event production

The Director of Operations works with other staff and laity at all levels and across all campuses to implement new projects, brainstorm solutions to problems, and otherwise to further the ministry.

This may be a clergy position dependent upon the qualifications of the applicant.
