Chapelwood United Methodist Church, a 6,000 member Houston church is seeking a Director of Children’s Ministry who will have primary leadership responsibility for all ministry to children ages birth through 5th grade. The Director leads the Children’s Ministry Lay Core Team, supervises the Children’s Ministry staff, and oversees the network of volunteers who minister to hundreds of children each week. The Children’s Ministry seeks to serve Chapelwood’s mission to “embody God’s grace as we receive it to those who need it” in an age-appropriate manner.

This position and program curriculum are in place. However, the new director will have opportunity to recreate or modify programs, working with other staff, to fulfill our mission. A new Children's Ministry building, opened in 2008, has greatly expanded the ministry potential.

Key competencies for this position are an unconditional love for all children, a sense of being "called" to work with God’s children and share faith with them; being visionary, innovative and resourceful; relational; energetic; having the ability to lead others and equip them for discipleship growth; and being a self-starter. The demonstrated ability to build, empower, and maintain a large volunteer network would be a huge plus. A Bachelor’s degree and 2-5 years of relevant work experience is required. Chapelwood is a dynamic, growing, seven-day-a-week, “community of communities” with 7 weekend worship services. There are over 1,000 children registered in the ministry, with an average attendance of nearly 600 on Sunday mornings.
